To save you the click, the modified Tesla Model S featured a chrome wrap, huge wheels, and a body kit among other bits and pieces. Nothing anyone's never seen before on a clapped out old Mitsubishi Evo.
But, just a few days after the fact a video has surfaced of another Tesla — one alleged to be the latest creation by IAMAUTO, a custom car company founded by recording artist will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas fame. And to put it bluntly, this Tesla takes the vulgar tag to the next level.
Yet, I find myself liking it.
Looking like the lovechild of that car from iRobot and the Michelin Man, not a lot is known about the IAMAUTO creation sans what we learn in watching the video. It and its stupendous wide-body kit are dumped on the Tarmac, has a bespoke set of headlights and taillights, wears a grin on the front that Mazda's 2013 model range would be proud of, and some impeccably deeply dished wheels. And that's before you get to the suicide doors and the McLaren-esque side panels.
So, why like this and not the chrome-wrapped concoction? Six simple words; this is no longer a Tesla.
will.i.am and his mysterious underground car group have basically created something completely new here. Of course to anyone who knows cars this is clearly a hacked up Model S, but to everyone else this will look like something completely new and different. And for every person who sees it on the street and recoils in horror, secreting vomit from their eyeballs, there is guaranteed to be at least 10 people who want to know more about it. Who built it, how fast it can go, how much one costs, and so on and so on.
This is no longer a car pretending to be something it isn't, this is something all its own. And like it or not, that makes it a rare breed.
