Pukekohe Park holds up to 40 Open Testing Days per year and on May 13th they’re welcoming all motorsport and driving enthusiasts to come down to one of New Zealand’s most iconic race tracks.
They’re holding a special Introduction Day to give drivers a taste of Open Testing around the wildest circuits in the country.
“We want people to bring their own car down and have a go,” said Peter Hunt from Pukekohe Park.
“It gives them a taste of what Testing Days are about. Then they can come down on regular days and have even more fun. And of course if they want NZ V8 Power lap, then they can arrange that too.”
The concept is simple – for only $65 anyone can bring their own car to Pukekohe Park Raceway for an open-speed 20 minute session around the 2.91km track, where you’re allowed to “let rip” on one the fastest in New Zealand.
A full day option is available at a cost of $175, which guarantees at least four 20 minute sessions.
Test session groups are organized by category, class and experiences, ensuring those new to circuit driving don’t have to worry about sharing the track with experienced track-goers with competition specification vehicles.
There are a few conditions. Drivers must have a valid license and their car have a current registration and WOF.
Pukekohe Park has also introduced a ‘Pit Exit License’ accreditation scheme, the first of its kind in New Zealand.
To pass the accreditation, Open Testing drivers must complete a small test split into four segments, each with a supporting video which sets out and demonstrates key safety messages and expected track day behavior.
Finally, participants are also required to wear a race suit, neck brace and helmet. Don’t feel the need to rush out and buy a full kit as Pukekohe Park have a full range of safety gear available to hire for the day.
Added to the safety equipment worn is a new electronic flag system that operates around the whole racetrack, so hazards and warning signs can be prompted by organizers around the circuit immediately. They also alert you to the session ending.
NZ V8 Hot Laps will also be on hand during the day with their 400kW Holden Commodore for both driving experience and hot lap options, plus advanced driver instruction and coaching.
At the end of your Introduction Day session you’ll also receive a behind the scenes tour of the Pukekohe Park Raceway, including the opportunity to have your photo taken on top of the Supercar podium.
Spaces for the Introduction Day are limited, so book online to reserve your spot.
