A new Volkswagen SUV concept has been teased ahead of its debut at the 2016 Geneva motor show, which starts at the end of the February.
Volkswagen has revealed few details to go along with today’s teaser images, noting that the as-yet-unnamed concept “can be seen as the beginning of a broad SUV offensive”.
When unveiled in full, the concept SUV will give us all “a realistic perspective on a completely new model series and at the same time on the future production model”.
Given Volkswagen’s choice of words, the Geneva-bound crossover concept will most probably preview a new global sub-Tiguan model, duking it out with the Holden Trax, Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V and the upcoming Toyota C-HR, among others.
Failing that, the concept could also potentially preview one of the rumoured variants being spun off from the second-generation Tiguan. If this is the case, the concept will most likely be of a Tiguan “coupe”.
There’s also said to be a long-wheelbase version in the works, but given that this model is targeted primarily at the US, it’s unlikely to debut in Geneva.
On the inside, the concept car will, like the Budd-e concept from this year’s CES, feature “hardly any switches”, so expect voice recognition, gesture control, and touchscreens to feature prominently.
