The new EV speed king?
We already knew Lucid could build a bloody fast electric-vehicle, they proved that back in April when an electronically limited prototype, dubbed the ‘Alpha Speed Car’, hit 349km/h (217mph).
But what has remained a mystery since then is what happens when the limiter is taken off, that is, until now.
In the same Air prototype used for the April speed run, minus the limiter and with a slight software tweaks to the air suspension, the prototype has bettered its fastest time to a GPS-verified 235mph (378.2km/h).
Lucid claim that the car was “perfectly stable in corners and on straight” throughout the entire run.
However, what makes the feat all the more incredible is that Lucid has suggested that 378km/h isn’t the final top speed for the Air.
In a blog post the company said; “While it may be the top speed achievable on that day, with those conditions, and at this stage of development for the Alpha Speed Car, it is not the final production top speed for the Lucid Air."
“What it does represent, however, is further proof that the Lucid Air is a vehicle without compromise, one that offers incredible performance and dynamics, yet still offers remarkable space and comfort for a sublime luxury experience.”
That’s one hell of a tease.
