Retractable folding roof on new BMW 420i Convertible
BMW is introducing the new 420i Convertible with a three-piece retractable folding roof.
The company says the new model offers superior levels of soundproofing and interior comfort in all weather conditions.
The four-seater model is priced from $87,000 plus on-road costs, and is available in BMW showrooms now.
The company says the interior roof is fully lined and when in place offers the interior ambience of a premium sports coupe.
The BMW Group NZ managing director Florian Renndorfer said the 420i convertible with its folding hardtop roof offered a perfect blend of open-top motoring with the refinement of a sports coupe.
"All it takes is a push of a button to transform the dynamic coupe into an elegant athletic convertible, within only 20 seconds and at speeds up to 18 km/h," he said.
When combined with the Comfort Access keyless entry and start system, the entire roof folding process could be operated from the key fob.
Standard specification included features such as navigation system Business, electric front seat adjustment with easy-entry feature, Lane Change warning, a Lane Departure warning system along with low-speed collision avoidance and pedestrian recognition, and parking assistant which provided assistance in both parallel and perpendicular parking.
The BMW 4 Series Convertible also had plenty of space in the boot, even when the retractable hardtop was lowered.
"An electro-hydraulic loading assistance system pivots and positions the folded hardtop in the boot as needed to ensure maximum utilisation of the storage space available. Additionally, a folding rear seat allows long objects to the loaded through the boot and cabin."
The model added a new-generation four-cylinder engine alternative to the existing inline six-cylinder models.
The 2-litre four cylinder petrol engine delivered 135Kw of power and 270 Nm of torque to the rear wheels.
All BMW 4 Series models were equipped with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles.
