A user of the popular social media site has photographed the new Bugatti “Chiron” completely undisguised.
Instagram user Erico Hessel, a photographer based in New York City, spotted the Chiron while it was undergoing testing on public roads in Italy.
It seems as though Hessel only managed to take one good photo of the hypercar, but his shot gives us our clearest view yet of the successor to the Veyron. In earlier spy shots, the Chiron wore heavy amounts of camouflage or was mostlyhidden under sheeting.
For the first time we can see the expansive arc of bodywork that stretches from the base of the A-pillar through the roof and rear fenders and back to the base of the front doors.
Out the back there’s what looks like an automatically adjusted rear spoiler, as well as a rear centre section and a diffuser that juts out quite dramatically.
According to earlier reports, the follow up to Veyron will be named Chiron, and have a starting price of around 2.2 million euros ($3.4 million).
Under the skin, the Chiron will employ an updated version of the Veyron’s running gear. The Veyron’s turbocharged 8.0-litre W16 engine will gain direct injection and electric turbos, which should see output rise to around 1500hp (1103kW).
Prior to his resignation due to the dieselgate scandal, former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn told a German newspaper that “there will be, for the first time, next to the petrol model, a hybrid version with improved performance”.
