This Land Rover Defender may look like it rolled off the production line 60 years ago, but in actual fact, it was one of the last to ever be produced.
Specifically, it's a limited edition 2015 Land Rover Defender 90 Heritage that's now up for auction after being under the care of a sole celebrity owner - English actor, comedian, and screenwriter Rowan Atkinson.
This Heritage edition is one of only 400 examples made as part of the Land Rover Defender Celebration Line, released to mark the end of UK production of the current Defender on 29 January 2016.
This Land Rover Defender was delivered to the British comedian new on the 28th November 2015.
Combining nostalgic design cues with modern creature comforts, the Heritage edition features the historic Grasmere Green metallic paintwork, Alaska White roof, heritage style grille, headlamp surrounds, silver front bumpers, heavy-duty steel wheels and HUE 166 graphics in tribute to the first ever pre-production Series I Land Rover from 1947.
Inside the Heritage design includes an aluminium clock, aluminium door handles and perforated leather on the steering wheel, gear stick and handbrake, as well as cloth seats with vinyl sides and backs. A padded cubby box and Heritage logo rubber mats complete the look.
Atkinson also opted for an upgraded DBS stereo, mud flaps, tow bar, and bespoke dog guard.
The Land Rover has covered just 2,260 miles (3,637km) and has a pre-sale estimate of £38,000 - £45,000 (NZ$66,400 - $78,650) when it goes to auction in July.
“This distinctive limited edition is sure to be highly sought-after, offering buyers and collectors a slice of exclusive Land Rover history, and, with celebrity ownership by the hugely successful and admired Mr. Rowan Atkinson, this particular car has even more added appeal,” said Nick Whale, managing director at Silverstone Auctions.
There's no doubt the winning bidder will own a piece of Land Rover history. But as yet, no mention if the off-roader can be driven via a roof-mounted sofa and broomstick.
