Well, maybe. Probably.
New images depicting the GTI and R-line variants of the all-new sixth generation Volkswagen Polo have surfaced online — the day before the German manufacturer are set to launch the car in Berlin ahead of a public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The shots aren't confirmed, but they do align with a couple of 'teaser' images that Volkswagen released earlier this week that showed the incoming car's headlights and taillights. They also align with prototype spy images taken several months ago that bounced around the internet.
The images showcase a more mature looking Polo, with more aggressively sculpted panels and an 'angrier' face (punctuated by slimmer, black-backed three-dimensional headlights) being the most noticeable differences.
Yeah yeah, I hear you; it doesn't look that different from the current one. But it is. Underneath it's (reportedly, anyway) got a whole new set of underpinnings; dropping the platform — the PQ25 or A05 platform, for chassis aficionados — the Polo's used for eight years. This new Polo will share the same platform with the new Seat Ibiza, and as such it's a bit longer and a bit wider.
Engines? Unknown. The hottest of them, the GTI, is rumoured to get the hand-me-down donk from the fifth-gen Golf GTI. A potent package in such a small car.
