It might just about be the weirdest supercar launch ever.
You've already seen the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS, as have I. It was revealed in Los Angeles at the annual E3 electronic expo as part of the launch of the Forza Motorsport 7 video game.
Only ... well ... it wasn't.
You see, in the wake of that launch, there was nothing to be seen or heard from Porsche themselves. Inquiries about the GT2 RS's power output, further images, or further stats have been met with a stonewall of silence. To the point that Porsche themselves have denied the existence of the model — as evidenced by this bizarre email exchange between Jalopnik and Porsche Cars North America.
The car, which is apparently set to be the most powerful 911 Porsche have ever made, is rumoured to make its 'public debut' at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.
But not before a new wave of leaked and rather convincing-looking images could hit the airwaves.
The images give better context of the extent of the incredible aerodynamics on the new RS — including our first 'proper' look at just how extensive Porsche's treatment of the rear diffuser and bumper area is.
We also get a sneak peek at what the interior will look like. It features a half-cage behind the driver and passenger seats, a healthy dose of red alcantara mixed into the black, and also numerous references to 'Weissach' — a storied race circuit, and the home of Porsche Motorsport.
Again, these leaked images bring no further details on the car's specs. But expect a little bit more clarity by the end of this weekend, and the end of the Festival of Speed...
