New Zealand’s New #1 New Vehicle: The Ford Ranger
Leading a major shift in customer vehicle trends, the New Ford Ranger has knocked off the Corolla to become the overall number one new vehicle in New Zealand. The Ford Ranger not only outsold its direct competitors but outsold all passenger vehicles including long-time number one – the Toyota Corolla.
“We’ve always said, we’d leave it up to the customer to decide and the Kiwi customer has well and truly decided,” said Corey Holter, Managing Director Ford New Zealand. “It’s a fantastic result for the Ford Ranger - not only being the number one ute but also the overall number one vehicle. It’s a huge milestone for the vehicle and the company.”
Ending the year with 608 Ford Ranger sales in December, the Ford Ranger increased the gap to its nearest competitor by more than 1000 units. But it also extended its lead against the Corolla to almost 300 units and ended 2015 as the most popular overall new car in the country.
“The designers, engineers and everyone at Ford will be extremely happy to reach such a goal. It speaks volumes for the ute itself but also for Ford having the right vehicle for the Kiwi customer. The Ford Ranger fits the New Zealand lifestyle to a tee and that is a big part of its success,” he added.
Holter explains the most important thing to Ford New Zealand is that the Ford Ranger is the Kiwi favourite.
“It’s certainly good to take the number one position but what is more satisfying is knowing that the Ford Ranger is what Kiwis are driving,” said Holter. “There is a leading sales number and many people focus on that but for us, it’s the customers that matter. The Ford Ranger is not propped up by sales to rental companies and it won’t be. The Ford Ranger lead comes from being the best-performing, most-capable ute and the best value. That’s what makes it the Kiwi favourite.”
