The completely new Isuzu D-Max Ute range of light commercial utility vehicles arrive in NZ June 2012. Available in three configurations (single, space & double cab) two trim levels (LX & LS) with options for transmissions & drivetrains, the latest D-Max range is the 2nd generation to be sold in NZ, but the 8th generation since the first Isuzu Wasp Ute of 1963.
Designed & built by Isuzu Motor Company & featuring a complete Isuzu powertrain the new model D-Max is a massive jump forward for the brand in NZ. The six key design improvements for the completely new 2012 model include, safety, passenger comfort, power, strength, lower cost of ownership & build quality.
The D-Max cabin has been completely redesigned with such features as Isuzu Sky Sound, an overhead feature of the Isuzu Premium Sound audio system for a true surround sound experience using the roof structure as effectively one large speaker.
All double cab models feature Bluetooth & Cruise Control as standard features with LS models now including steering wheel mounted controls for telephone, audio & cruise. All passengers now enjoy a larger entry & exit space with increased shoulder, head & leg room.
Rear passengers are not forgotten with a new design rear seat featuring an increased backrest recline angle (now 24 degrees), child seat tether strap anchors, a centre arm rest & wider front seat runners for added rear seat passenger foot space under the front seats. A total of 10 cupholders and 15 storage bins are available.
Isuzu Terrain Command 4WD system (on 4WD models) greatly improves the operation of the 4WD system & the 235mm ground clearance means that the D-Max will rarely get stuck. All variants receive & upgraded diesel engine, the new Isuzu 4JJ1-TC Hi-Power 3.0td 4-cylinder turbo diesel with 130kW of power & 380Nm of torque.
Transmissions options include either a Isuzu MUX 5-speed manual with high torque capacity & output reduction or & automatic Rev-Tronic (Aisin AW TB50-LS 5-speed with sequential shift & brake shift lock electronically controlled, tri-mode with Adaptive Grade Logic Control & fuel-saving lock-up torque converter on gears 2, 3, 4 & 5, (holds gear 3 in varied-gradient ascents, selects 3 on steep descents to hold speed w/engine braking & Hill-ascent & Hill descent control).
D-Max features a brand new truck tough chassis means even better balance & performance whether loaded or not, delivering superior stability & road holding in all conditions. Range features two grades, LX is the standard grade & LS is the higher specification grade.
Range for 2012 offers seven variants, LX 4x2 single cab chassis 5MT, LS 4x2 double cab ute 5MT, LS 4x2 double cab ute 5AT, LX 4x4 space cab chassis 5MT, LX 4x4 double cab ute 5MT, LS 4x4 double cab ute 5MT, LS 4x4 double cab ute 5AT.
Limited Edition Swazi D-Max added to range March 2013 with only 30-units available nationally, has all the usual LS 4x4 double cab ute 4AT features but adds Swazi Leather, Swazi exterior badging, Swazi Carpet mats, custom numbering (1 to 30), 20in wheels with A/T tyres, touchscreen media centre with reversing camera & GPS, roof rails, unique exterior panels & electric driver's seat. LX 4x4 single cab chassis 5MT added to the range December 2013.
Range for 2014 revised & now offers eleven models, with four 2x2 variants, LX 2x2 double cab ute 5MT, LX 2x2 double cab ute 5AT, LS 2x2 double cab ute 5MT, LS 2x2 double cab ute 5AT & seven 4x4 variants, LX 4x4 single cab chassis 5MT, LX 4x4 space cab chassis 5MT, LS 4x4 space cab wellside 5AT, LX 4x4 double cab ute 5MT, LS 4x4 double cab ute 5MT, LS 4x4 double cab ute 5AT & top of the line LS-T 4x4 double cab ute 5AT.
