Looking for a bit of fun? Why not enter your Suzuki in the Gumboot Rally? That’s what Jamie Kirk did in his 2006 Swift Sport, and found it’s the perfect car for this sociable cross-country driving event.
The Gumboot Rally differs from races like the Cannonball Run, in that it’s not about speed. Its founders Andy, Gator and Mikey wanted to put the focus back on driving and having a good time. So the courses take in some of the best driving roads in New Zealand, along with the most spectacular scenery. To ramp up the fun there are plenty of quirky stop-offs and challenges.
There’s always a theme and, as there’s a prize for the ‘best-dressed’, entrants really go to town on their cars. Jamie won Best Theme for the 2013 Forgotten Highway run with his Swift decked out in an ensemble that included several anti-zombie rockets.
Jamie’s 2006 Suzuki Swift Sport has a number of mods including custom wheels, bracing, anti-roll bars, uprated brakes… and rocket launchers. Perfect for the zombie apocalypse.
“The Gumboot Rally, to me, is a chance to see the great sights NZ has to offer… the fun way! And it isn’t just a 2 day event, I enjoy the whole build-up – the planning and theming.” says Jamie. He loves his Swift and sees it as the perfect car for this type of event. “The set-up of the car makes it such fun drive… it’s very responsive through the twisty roads of the rally.”
