Some people regard cars only as a means of getting from one location to another and couldn’t even tell you what model their car is — only the colour. I know, it’s outrageous. But there are other people, usually you Driven readers, whose lives revolve around their vehicles. Not just their current ones but all their fleet of vehicles — from their first car to their dream garage. Since Driven introduced “Me and My Car” — a feature in which vehicle owners explain what they drive and delve into their motoring background — we’ve featured a few characters. I think this week’s subject, Giapo Grazioli is one of our most outgoing and memorable characters. Another outgoing motoring character is Coast’s breakfast radio host, Brian Kelly who is the subject for the first “Stars and Their Cars” video on Driven.co.nz. Brian owns a white 1986 BMW 318i that had only one “lady owner” before he bought it four years ago. Brian reckons she only drove it once a week and that was to church. Sure, Brian! After having a series of work cars, Brian went to a car dealership in his home town of Tauranga to buy a suitable vehicle. He was originally intending on buying a new BMW, but then he spotted a little beauty at the back of the dealership. Go to Driven.co.nz to see what the motorsport commentator thinks about his car and find out why he adores manual cars, rather than automatics.
Brian is also the commentator at the Leadfoot Festival, on the Coromandel on February 6 and 7 - see www.leadfootfestival.com
