It may look ready for the scrapheap but this E-Type Jaguar could still be worth up to $NZ269,000 after more than 40 years in the garage.
The classic 1964 model was purchased by its last owner in 1970 as a gift for his wife, who enjoyed driving the two-seater sports car - with a top speed of 150mph - for around five years.
However, after the arrival of their first child the couple's priorities changed and the car was consigned to the garage while they focused on bringing up their growing family.
The Jaguar remained in the garage, completely unused, ever since after the owner decided he couldn't bear to part with it so the vintage motor fell into a state of disrepair.
It was recently uncovered again following the death of the owner, who lived in Cheshire, and has been put up for auction with an estimate of around $81,000.
It is hoped the car, which has just 52,000 miles on the clock and a 3.8 litre engine, will appeal to a petrol-head seeking to undertake the ultimate car restoration project.
This, however, will not be cheap and experts believe it could cost between $89,000 and $180,000 to return the car to its former glory.
Excellent examples of the model have been known to fetch up to $269,000.
James McWilliam, a sales specialist at H&H Classics, which is selling the car, watched on as it was removed from the garage and saw the light of day for the first time in four decades.
He said: 'We know that it was used between 1970 and 1975, but after that the couple started their family, went on to have several children and I guess had priorities other than driving around in a flashy car.
'But they didn't want to get rid of it as the owner considered it part of the family - so it has just been sat in the garage ever since because they simply didn't need it any more.
'This will be a great restoration project for someone, but it will take an awful lot of time and money.
'To do it properly and have it fully restored by a Jaguar specialist could cost anything between £50,000 and £100,000.
'Good examples of this model can go for anywhere between £120,000 and £150,000.'
Damian Jones, head of sales at H&H Classics, added: 'Considering the perennial popularity of the immortal E-Type Jaguar, it's extraordinary how many have been confined to barns over the years and are only now resurfacing to the delight of new would-be owners.
'So, if you missed the last one for some reason, take due heed of 'PRF 935B', a delightfully unmolested late 3.8-litre coupe that's just been exposed to the full light of day for the first time in circa 40 years.'
The car is offered with its original handbook, warranty card and service book containing eight entries up to the 20,000-mile service in November 1965 and also five old MOT certificates, the last dated 1973/74 at 50,000 miles.
It will be sold at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, on October 12.
