More than 800 cars on display at Galaxy of Cars

Superstars of the vintage and classic car world will be on display at Galaxy of Cars and Swap Meet being held at Western Springs to raise proceeds for Foster Hope, a charity providing care kits for children entering the foster system.

“We think it’s a great charity that offers some much needed love and support to children and young people when they most need it,” says organiser Noel Mountjoy of the New Lynn Lions Club.

More than 800 beautifully restored cars, including some of the very first vehicles ever brought into New Zealand, have been registered for the event offering lots of eye candy for car enthusiasts to enjoy. One of the most interesting is the last ever Chrysler Charger to come off the production line at Todd Motors in Wellington before the factory was closed.

“There is pretty much something for everybody. We have very early cars, classic cars from the 50’s and 60’s and even mini hot rods for the kids to drive around,” says Mr Mountjoy.

A turnout of up to 5000 people is expected and there will be children’s entertainment and an opportunity to exchange and purchase vintage car parts at the swap meet.

Now in its 18th year, Galaxy of Cars was created as a means to raise funds for children’s charities. Over the years the event has raised $170,000.
