High-speed spin ends with miraculous escape
The motorsport season is pretty much done and dusted for 2016. Nascar, Supercars, DTM, Formula 1, and a host of others have shut up shop in preparation for next season, leaving motorsport fans scouring the internet and their local circuits for a new fix to fill the void.
Most recently the TV edit of this year's Highlands 101 enduro has been published online — a solid hour of GT awesomeness that is thoroughly recommended for anyone with time to burn.
But while we did get to witness a Kiwi 1–2, the real highlight of the race was this incredible little piece of driving from Audi pilot Jake Fouracre.
He and co-driver Liam Talbot had displayed competitive speed in their older-spec Audi R8 LMS GT3, however the race hadn't gone to plan following early issues. Things however took an all too literal turn on lap 68 however, when their Squirk Audi decided to have a suspension failure at almost 200km/h.
Adding to the factor of speed was that the failure happened on the violent run to the bridge, where the driver's run is encased on both sides by concrete walls. However unlike other drivers who had come unstuck at the same point on the circuit earlier in the weekend, Fouracre was able to hold on and avoid making contact with both the walls, and the cars behind him.
Not a bad effort mid-stint, when the limbs are aching and all you want's a nap.
