The roof of the motor racing circuit that stages Formula One’s British Grand Prix has to be repaired after it was damaged in a storm.
Part of the “Wing”, the US$40 million ($53m), three-storey corporate building at Silverstone, was affected by wind last week. Images on social media appeared to show a section of the roof had been removed.
“Although it looks a bit of a mess at the moment, the damage is largely cosmetic and the structural and functional integrity of the roof remains completely intact,” Silverstone sporting director Stuart Pringle said, adding that debris landed in the paddock.
Pringle said a domestic sports-car race scheduled should not be affected, and the World Endurance Championship on April 10-12 will take place.
