Bud Racing Kawasaki Monster Energy's Maxime Desprey stormed to his second perfect score in the first three rounds of the European EMX250 Motocross Championship at Talavera de la Reina in Spain.
The Frenchman holeshot both races and only relinquished the lead for two laps halfway through the opening moto for tactical reasons when he started to suffer a little arm pump. After scoring maximum points in Spain Maxime is now just five points from the series lead and goes full of confidence to the next round in Great Britain on May 23/24.
“It has been a great weekend for me with two race wins, and a strong comeback in the standings as my main rivals didn’t had such a good day here in Spain. Said Desprey
"I got the holeshot in the first race, then felt some arm pump and let Graulus pass me. I looked his lines while I recovered, and was able to pass him again to win this race. I got another holeshot in the second race, and built a good gap to control the race. The track was nice to ride, now we’ll go to the team working this week with Jacky Vimond to prepare for Matterley and then my return to GP racing at the French round.”
Teammate Nicolas Dercourt had his best result of the series so far in Spain to record 10-7 moto finishes for seventh overall, each of the results coming after a strong ride through the field; the twenty-five point haul has also lifted him to tenth in the series standings.
“This weekend was my best one so far in the European Championship. I had a good feeling with the track and got a good third position in the qualifying session. Said Dercourt
"My start was not so good in the first race but I managed to recover from twentieth to tenth and I was happy with my riding. My jump at the start of the second race was much better but I touched handlebars with Graulus on the straight and had to slow down, so again I had to fight back from thirteenth to seventh. I got seventh overall. That's my best result so far and it’s good for my confidence; now I need to have some better starts and we’ll be working on it.”
David Herbreteau might have scored more heavily for the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team if he had enjoyed better luck. The teenager had a strong ride from thirteenth to seventh in the opening moto and held second place to Maxime Desprey in a Kawasaki 1-2 until the very last lap of race two when another rider launched a severe challenge and David found himself on the ground. Unable to restart the bike he relinquished all chances of points but is now fourteenth in the series standings.
