The fastest time attack team in New Zealand has confirmed entry into the Royal Purple Pro Class at WTAC 2015.

Wellington-based team HELL RACING will be making the trip over and plan on making a big impact. The team has committed to serious upgrade program and secured one of the top Kiwi drivers to ensure they have the best possible crack at the title.

This will be the third time this car has come to Australia but we are told it will be a totally different animal to what was previously raced.

“Having competed before at WTAC certainly gives us the insight into what is required to do well and it is a whole lot more than most realize” said team principle Scott Kreyl.

“Your car may be fast on home soil but once you get over there it is an entirely different story. The fastest cars at WTAC are on an another level entirely. Knowing this, we know where we need to be and are taking, what we believe, are the right steps to put us on the podium.”

There is no question one of the biggest influences in laptimes in the Pro Class is aero and the team have employed American aero ace Andrew Brilliant to put together a package capable of taking on the big guys.

Along with this Kreyl also confirmed they will be taking advantage of the new regulation allowing the usage of nitrous oxide in the Pro Class.

“We have the new aero package underway and Andrew assures us we should be competitive at the top of the field” said Kreyl “Our tuner Dave Heergarden is once of the best tuners in the business and very experienced with nitrous oxide so this will also play well into our hands.”

The car made close to 600kW on the D-Sport dyno in Tuaranga, New Zealand but we are expecting a whole bunch more before the team heads over the Tasman. The car has also been fitted with the latest MCA coilovers and complete Racetech subframes and arms.

“GCG have hooked us up with a new Garrett GTX 4088 with a very special turbine that will help push the power even higher and we will also be switching to the latest Emtron KV8 ECU with all of the advanced features.”

Bring it on! – Scott Kreyl

And the biggest news of all is that the team has secured current V8 Supertourer champion Simon Evans to handle the driving duties. Whilst his name may not be commonplace in Australia it certainly is in New Zealand where he is widely regarded as one of the hottest talents.

Simon is the older brother of GP2  racer Mitch Evans who recently raced at Le Mans with the Jota Sport team coming second in the LMP2 class and 10th overall, and the son of famous Kiwi land speed record holder Owen Evans .

“This is fantastic news for time attack fans world wide but particularly in New Zealand “said WTAC marketing manager Greg Lysien “We know we have a solid fan base over there and with Rod Millen coming over as well as 3 Rotor Racing having a proper crack at Open Class this certainly completes the package perfectly!”

“We certainly have all the data and the right parts now it is just a matter of making it all happen” said Kreyl “We have had Garth Walden and Louie (the data guy from Tilton) helping us iron out the car properly and plan on giving it a real go this year. Bring it on!”
