Seven-time Bathurst 1000 winner Craig Lowndes and former IndyCar Series champion Will Power have been confirmed as starters for tomorrow night's round of the BP Supercars All Stars Eseries at Circuit of the Americas.
While it will be Power's second event in the series, following his starring round at Bathurst, it's Lowndes' virtual debut.
“My experience on a simulator is pretty limited, I missed that phase,” Lowndes said. “I’ve used a sim in the past in my last few years of full-time driving, but it’s just a different world.
“To get your head around not having that tactile feel of what the car is doing underneath you, is really something you’ve got to just change your whole focus. It’s been interesting to watch it from afar; it’s been quite humorous at times. If there’s only one driver I beat on Wednesday its probably my teammate, Jamie Whincup.”
The pair of announcements follow a whirlwind of Eseries confirmations. Lowndes and Power aren't the only 'wildcard' guest drivers, with Xfinity NASCAR Team Penske driver Austin Cindric, former Bathurst 1000 winner Garth Tander, and Super2 driver Josh Fife also joining the grid.
After an exciting debut in the series last week, McLaren Formula 1 driver Lando Norris is also set to return with Walkinshaw Andretti United, completing a packed wildcard group.
Along with a stack of wildcard competitors, Supercars also confirmed a new incentive overnight that will allow fans of the series to compete for a slot at a future Supercars Eseries event.
Online iRacing competitors based in Australia can compete for the slot via a dedicated time attack session at Phillip Island, with the winner chosen from the top five fastest laps. The winner will compete at the eighth round of the championship at Interlagos.
Supercars also announced a raft of names overnight for its upcoming celebrity virtual race. All Black prop Angus Ta'avao, MotoGP legend Mick Doohan, Dakar Rally winner Toby Price, rallying champion Scott Pedder, and team bosses Ryan Storey and Zak Brown are among the names confirmed.
The celebrity showdown will take place next Monday at 9.00pm NZST, while this week's All Stars event will take place tomorrow night at 8.00pm (both on Sky Sports 55).
