V8 5-litre Mustang GT Fastback most popular model
The first of 550 pre-ordered right-hand-drive Ford Mustangs have arrived in Auckland.
The managing director of Ford New Zealand, Corey Holter, said the first of the new cars would be delivered over the next week or two.
"It's New Zealand automotive history in the making," he said.
Previous Mustangs sold in New Zealand have been left-hand-drive models.
The shipment arrived in Auckland earlier this week, and the vehicles had been moved to Ford's vehicle compound where they would undergo a series of final checks, before being transported to dealerships around the country.
Holter said the 550 pre-orders was unprecedented for any vehicle in New Zealand.
"Ford says the Mustang is the heart and soul of the Ford Motor Company but I’d go one further and say it’s the heart and soul of motoring.”
The overwhelming choice among the pre-orders remains the Mustang GT Fastback with the six-speed automatic GT 5.0-litre V8. In New Zealand, it makes up approximately 58 per cent of the first orders.
Around the world, ‘Race Red’ had been the clear colour choice of customers, and up until very recently the most popular
Mustang colour choice in New Zealand as well.
However, ‘Magnetic’ has now overtaken the lead as the top colour choice for Kiwis. ‘Race Red’ now takes a close second place followed by ‘Ruby Red’, ‘Deep Impact Blue’, ‘Shadow Black’, ‘Oxford White’ and then ‘Triple Yellow’.
Convertibles made up 15 per cent of total orders while manual transmissions made up 15 per cent of the New Zealand pre-orders.
