War of words: Jeremy Clarkson labels Elon Musk ‘petulant’

There are people in the world of motoring that are probably wise to not pick fights with ... as fun as picking fights can be.
Perhaps the only thing more fun, is when two of these characters pick a fight with each other. It's often a recipe for popcorn.
The tiff between The Grand Tour host Jeremy Clarkson and Tesla big cheese Elon Musk is an ongoing thing, that looks set to hang around for a long long time.
It started in 2008 when Clarkson gave a less than stellar review of Tesla's first car; the Roadster. Delivering the review for BBC's Top Gear at the time, Clarkson's review featured the car prematurely running out of battery, as well as encountering a brake failure.
While Clarkson, deep in his normal world of creative hyperbole and hard truths, was possibly a bit harsh about a car that — at the time — was a first car for a tiny up-and-coming company, you wouldn't expect anything less.
But Elon hadn't read the script; suing Top Gear for defamation. Though Elon lost the case, he and Clarkson haven't strayed from what others might consider a touchy talking point.
While on a recent junket for The Grand Tour's second season, Clarkson was asked about the case by The Daily Beast. And he didn't mix his words.
“He sued me and lost, he appealed and lost. You go online and you read that we ‘made it up,’ that we ‘faked it’…We didn’t,” said Clarkson.
“You see, if anybody is going to get sued, I mean you can't say that sort of thing. I could say all sorts of things about Musk but I won’t. Musk doesn’t like losing. Unfortunately, he did twice. He’s just got sour grapes.
“I actually reviewed the new Tesla in the new show and in many ways, it’s tremendous. I’ve got no axe to grind. He’s the only one who ever behaved in such a petulant way. Most industry bosses are a lot more grown up.”
There is a certain level of irony in Clarkson's comments of course. Punching a co-worker over a steak sounds a tiny little bit petulant to me...
Indeed, I'm not sure anyone in this tiff is truly 'winning'.
