A replica of Marty McFly’s legendary Back to the Future Toyota ute has sold at auction for US$110,000 (roughly $152,635 nzd).
The ute was built on a 1985 Toyota Xtra Cab Hilux, and features multiple screen-accurate components from the movie.
To name a few, there are blacked-out wheels, custom bar-work, Toyota windscreen banner, and of course, KC spotlights. Details go as accurate as the Californian number plate: ‘2BAK860’, which is the same that appears in Parts II and III of the movie. And just like in the movies, it’s a fuel-injected, five speed example, which appears to be in excellent condition.
Included in the sale was a selection of film memorabilia, such as a signed image of the original SR5, replica self-lacing Nikes, and a 1/10 scale RC model.
The ute features in all three films, first as an object of Marty's desire, and then as his daily drive-around when he returns to a changed future.
What better day to bring you the news than the 21st October, also known as Back to the Future Day. It's the date Marty travelled to in order to save his kid in the 1989 sequel.
