The 2017 Skoda Kodiaq has been partially leaked online, giving us a first proper look of the company’s new seven-seat SUV ahead of its public debut on September 1.
Images released by Czech website autoforum.cz reaffirm the new model’s close ties with the Vision S concept that previewed it, with the only major design changes being details like the door handles and shape of the mirrors.
The similarities are so close, in fact, that putting the two cars side-by-side makes it difficult to tell the difference other than the aforementioned details and the smaller alloy wheels on the production car.
Our image above shows the shape of the leaked production model against the Vision S concept. Although we can’t ensure that the proportions and scale are perfectly correct, the similarities in shape and size are obvious.
Following the company’s teaser images and video released last week, the Kodiaq not only looks a lot like the Vision S concept but also like the closely-related Skoda Superb ‘Liftback’ sedan and wagon, with its slim headlights, LED signature and angular tail-lights all similar to the Czech mid sizer.
Skoda's rival to the Toyota Highlander and recently-launched Mazda CX-9 will measure about 4.7 metres long and claim best-in-class luggage capacity of around of 720-2065 litres, along with brand-first features like a surround camera system.
European buyers will be offered a choice of five engines — three turbo petrols and two turbo diesels — and the option of front and all–wheel drive.
Shifting through the gears will be done via a six-speed manual or dual-clutch DSG transmission, though Australia-bound models are likely to get the DSG as standard due to our preference for self-shifters.
We are still yet to see the Kodiaq’s interior which will have the option of third-row seating – a first for the brand – though it’s likely the interior design will borrow much from the Superb.
The Kodiaq’s infotainment systems are also touted by the brand to be class-leading, which will offer connected technologies like internet connectivity and WiFi hotspot, along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality, which is already available on the current Skoda line-up.
