Ford reveals bizarre self-braking trolley project

Autonomous Emergency Braking, or AEB, comes standard in most new vehicles that are rolling out of factories in this day and age, but it seems to stop there.
Never ones to stray away from innovation, Ford have decided to implement the same technology in something that most of the population use just as much as cars - supermarket trolleys.
Whether its the trolley that started rolling away from you when you were unloading your groceries into your car, or those pesky children racing around the narrow aisles with it, the system will stop any potential collision.
Using exactly the same sensor system that is currently used in their vehicles, Ford have created the ultimate trolley - one that won't ding your car.
The sensors scan the field ahead of the trolley and will use the built-in brakes to stop
“Pre-Collision Assist technology can help our customers avoid accidents or mitigate the effects of being involved in a collision. We thought that showing how similar thinking could be applied to a shopping trolley would be a great way to highlight what can be a really useful technology for drivers,” said Anthony Ireson of Ford Europe marketing .
Though they are a wonderful idea, we're holding out to see them in a local supermarket anytime soon. The prototype came from a project where Ford is using automotive technology to solve un-automotive problems.
