Volkswagen has teased pictures of a lengthened Tiguan SUV, to be called the Allspace ahead of the Detroit Motor Show next month
Details are sparse but reports suggest the seven-seat model will have more room inside, as well as a longer wheelbase.
The new model is likely to be called the Allspace in Europe while the models for North America and China will simply be called Tiguan.
The wheelbase of the model is said to be 11cm longer than the standard Tiguan, providing more room inside the car.
What Car magazine says by adding two extra seats in the new model, Volkswagen would be providing a more practical version of the Tiguan, hoping to lure buyers who wanted more space but who did not want to buy an MPV.
It says the Allspace is 22cm longer than the standard Tiguan, with 11cm of that length incorporated in the wheelbase.
The current Tiguan is regarded as an upmarket medium-sized SUV.
When the 2016 Tiguan went on sale in New Zealand back in September, there was an unprecedented number of pre-orders for the new vehicle with hundreds being sold before customers had seen it.
With its high-tech features, increased luggage space and class leading towing capacity, the Tiguan was last week named Driven's medium SUV of the year.
