Spotted! First new Holden ZB Commodore seen testing in NZ

The wait for Holden's new European-based Commodore to land in New Zealand showrooms is almost over, with news of the platform's first public sighting spreading through the Driven office like wildfire this morning.
A Driven source spotted the new ZB Commodore this morning on Auckland's South Western, sporting some minimalist camouflage — including black stickers covering the boot-lid badging and blanked wheel center caps.

Of particular interest is the model of Commodore, as well as what CARJAM pull up about the plate attached.
Going by the bodykit (namely the silver portals on the front bumper the boomerang side skirts) it is a VXR — the 235kW all-wheel drive performance model. However, one then notices that it doesn't have the VXR's 20-inch wheels, or the same rear diffuser, or the Brembo front brake package.
CARJAM only serves to make things more intriguing, stating in a search of the number plate that it's an 'RS Station Wagon' and that it has the 2.0-litre 191kW engine under the bonnet instead of the VXR's 3.6-litre V6.
Country of origin being listed as 'Germany' still takes some getting used to, too.
My early guess is that this is some kind of mule model. We'll no doubt learn more about it in the coming months, as Holden prepare for their fully blown launch in April 2018.
For now, just keep your eyes peeled on your next commute...
