Starting back in 1995, Targa is one of New Zealand's longest-running motorsport events, and sees competitors from all over the country descending on a closed-course road to let loose each year.
With a winding road course running through the sweeping hills of the Taranaki to conquer, Sam and his dad set out with Toyota’s reborn Supra.
With a BMW-built 3.0-litre engine that produces 250kW and 500Nm sitting under the hood of the GR coupe, it can shoot to 100km/h from a standstill in just under 4.5 seconds.
Sam describes this as the "perfect" car to tackle the iconic New Zealand rally with, a title that does not come lightly.
Sam’s ride was one of two GR Supras to take part in the rally this year, courtesy of Toyota. While his one wore Gazoo Racing's red and white livery, the other sported a more reserved look.
We're not sure where Sam placed in the standings after the day of rallying, but by the look on his face at the end, we can safely say that he enjoyed his time in the hot seat.
