The Mini Car Club of Auckland aims to have more than 100 Minis on show at Mt Smart Stadium.

Weekend of fun and action as classic marque turns 55

Every Labour Weekend, Mini enthusiasts look forward to the annual Mini Nationals which are hosted by a different club around the country.

This year the Mini Car Club of Auckland is hosting the 20th event at Mt Smart Stadium.
As the marque also turns 55 this year, the club is hoping to have more than 100 Minis in place. The club also hopes to cram as many classic Minis and BMW Minis into the stadium as possible, with an area set aside on Saturday for non-national registered owners and their cars.

The event is open to the public for a gold-coin donation with proceeds going to KidsCan, which supports disadvantaged children.

Starting with a Show & Shine on Saturday morning and moving to a navigation trial in the afternoon, day one finishes with a spit-roast meal and get-together in the afternoon.

Sunday features a gymkhana in the morning and autocross in the afternoon.

For those not interested in the speed events there is a Mini tour of Auckland, a good chance to see many Minis about the city.

The weekend will wind up with a prizegiving dinner on Sunday night.
