The basic version of the Panda is priced at $14,990 plus on-road costs.

Hot offer on small Fiat but numbers strictly limited in New Zealand

The Fiat Panda has become New Zealand's most affordable European small car with an opening price of just $14,990 plus on-roads but like the famous panda bear that deal faces rapid extinction.

"The Panda is the epitome of what has made Fiat a small car legend," said Fiat Chrysler NZ's David Smitherman. "On one hand it is an intelligent design that is safe, spacious, economical and intelligently designed, but on the other hand it is also a car that is stylish and cute, fun to drive and easy to own.

"We have a strictly limited number of Pandas in 'captivity' here in New Zealand and we want to set them free to find them new homes as soon as possible."

The Fiat Panda Lounge is priced from $16,990 (plus on-road costs) - a saving of $5000 compared with the normal prices for Fiat's smallest species. The price includes a three-year/150,000km warranty.

The Easy and Lounge are powered by Fiat's award-winning TwinAir 975cc turbo powerplant with a combined-cycle fuel efficiency of 4.1 litres per 100km.

The little hatch has six airbags, ABS anti-lock braking with Brake Assist System (BAS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and an active anti-whiplash head restraint system as standard.

On the Lounge variant there is Low Speed Collision Mitigation - which detects obstacles and applies the brakes automatically to avoid a collision.
