The upcoming Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG cabriolet has been snapped by photographers outside the Nurburgring.
Like the less powerful members of the S-Class cabrio family that were spotted earlier this year during cold weather testing, the S63 AMG variant seen here is only wearing a small amount of camouflage at the rear.
The new convertible faithfully replicates the style of the coupe. Notable changes include a folding fabric roof instead of a solid fixed item, a slightly flatter side window line and a smaller rear window.
It’s expected that the cabrio will round out the number of body variants available for the current-generation S-Class, which currently includes the regular and long wheelbase sedans, coupe, and extended wheelbase Maybach and Pullmanvariants.
Under the bonnet, the S63 AMG convertible should feature the same turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 as the coupe. With 430kW of power and 900Nm of torque on hand, the S63 coupe is capable of 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds in rear-wheel drive form. A 3.9 second time is possible in the coupe when all-wheel drive is fitted.
Even with the weight penalty incurred by all convertible conversions, the S63 AMG cabrio shouldn’t be too far off these figures.
The new S-Class cabriolet will have its public unveiling at this year’s Frankfurt motor show, which takes place in the middle of September.
