The 2016 RM-Z250 now comes with S-HDC, a form of launch control.

Suzuki has announced that production has started for the new, drastically updated 2016 RM-Z250.

With changes ranging from minor tweaks to engine internals to wholesale changes in suppliers, very few aspects of the bikes design have gone untouched.

Heading the gizmo side of the upgraded RM-Z250 is the addition of Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC), previously found on the 2014 RM-Z450, S-HAC acts as a form of traction control for boosting starts during MotoX events.

The RM-Z250 has had not only S-HDC added for the 2016 model year, but the 249cc single cylinder engine has undergone more than 80 changes ranging from casings to gearing.

Bore and stroke remains the same, but compression has been upped slightly to 13.75:1 with that addition of a new piston.

Suspension has also been hit with an upgrade, moving away from the Showa units of yesteryear and now comprising of fully adjustable KYB PSF2 pneumatic spring forks up front with a fully adjustable KYB monoshock in the rear.

With tweaks to the frame to mirror that of the RM-Z450 and to aid in improving bike agility, the RM-Z250 is looking like a very competitive new platform.

Suzuki Motorcycles New Zealand is expecting the first shipment of the new RM-Z250 to arrive in September.
