Available from February 2015, Ford New Zealand has confirmed its line-up and pricing for the new Ford Falcon. With a fresh new design, the range is the first to feature Ford’s globally proven smart hands-free communications and entertainment system SYNC® with MyFord Touch.

The Power of Voice
SYNC® with MyFord Touch offers customers three distinct ways to interact with the system, through the high-resolution, 8-inch colour touch screen, physical buttons and advanced voice control. The driver can control the car's entertainment system, climate control, satellite navigation and linked mobile devices - like compatible smartphones - with voice commands.
Touch screen control with MyFord Touch
The new Falcon will be the first vehicle in New Zealand to features SYNC’s high-resolution, 8-inch colour touch screen that provides an easy point of entry to manage the vehicle’s climate, phone, navigation and infotainment controls. Split into four coloured quadrants, SYNC makes it easy for drivers to quickly and intuitively access the system they wish to adjust through large, easy to access buttons on the new touch screen.
“One Shot” - Navigation destination entry made easy
SYNC2’s navigation system offers customers a raft of natural language voice controls that includes the ability to input a whole address in ‘one shot’ and SYNC2 will intuitively work it out or access favourites using personalised voice tags. To enter a new navigation destination into SYNC2’s navigation system, the driver can simply press the voice button and say “Set destination 86 Highbrook Drive” and SYNC2 does the rest. For pre-stored favourites, it is as simple as pushing the voice button and saying “set destination home”.
In addition, a full address is no longer required for a point of interest location. Instead the driver can say "Find a car park," for example, and the system will understand. Simply pushing the voice control button and saying “I’m hungry” will bring up a list of local restaurants, which you can then get directions to. To further aid navigation, landmarks and major road junctions are now shown in 3D to make them clearer and easier to understand.
The new Ford Falcon also heralds the much-anticipated return of the legendary XR8 featuring the Boss 5.0-litre, supercharged all-aluminium V8 engine - the first time a performance V8 has been in the XR Series since 2010.
Falcon Vehicle Line Director, David Wilkinson, said the engineering team had worked hard to ensure the Falcon XR8 delivered the expected ride, handling and stopping power desired in a performance touring sedan.
Wilkinson said the development team wanted to deliver the ultimate handling performance for customers.
“Compared to the last FG Falcon XR8, the 2014 Falcon XR8 has better turn-in, more rear grip, and an increased sense of control from behind the driver’s seat,” said Wilkinson. “Customers will also appreciate the levels of refinement in the new XR8.”
Ford has applied the best-of-the-best FPV GT RSPEC suspension on the new Falcon XR8 and features:
- Retuned front and rear dampers and springs
- Larger rear stabiliser bar (up from 18 mm to 19 mm)
- Stiffer front upper spring mounts
- Stiffer front upper control arm bushing
- Front and rear suspension geometry adjusted to complement 275 rear tyres
- Front Brembo 4-piston caliper brakes
- Rear single-piston caliper brakes
- High-specification cooling fan
- Limited slip differential
- Sports steering gear
The Boss 5.0-litre, supercharged 32-valve V8 features maximum power of 335 kW at 5,750 rpm and maximum torque of 570 Nm at 2,200-5,500 rpm.
New Falcon’s fresh new design
The Falcon XR6 and XR8 showcase the Australian design team’s interpretation of Ford’s global design DNA with a signature trapezoidal grille, chiselled head lamp treatment and smoother, wrap-around tail-lamps with LED technology. These features accentuate the high levels of design refinement that will appear across the refreshed Falcon range.
As a mark of distinction among the sporty XR series, the XR8 features strong exterior graphics with a distinct sporty front end treatment, as well as signature bonnet power dome that has been enhanced for the new Falcon XR8. This is complemented by a specific exhaust system tuned for the sporty V8 exhaust note.
The Exterior Design Manager for the new Falcon, Nima Nourian, said the Australian design team drew on all the visual strength of the existing XR series, which provided a perfect canvas to develop the new Falcon XR series.
“The challenge was delivering a powerful, yet premium look for the new car,” Nourian said. “I’m proud of the fact that the new Falcon XR builds on an already distinctive design and yet delivers a whole new personality.
“The Falcon is acknowledged as being one of the most iconic sedans available but the new Falcon pushes this theme further forward. Our customers will easily identify the new Falcon by its premium look.”
