The Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has confirmed it will produce a roadster version of the Adventador LP750-4 Supervoloce.

Just 500 Aventador Superveloce roadsters will be built.

The company has already sold the 600 SV coupes that it intends to crank out. This announcement confirms earlier reports, as well as photographs taken by our spy photographers, who spotted a prototype roadster undergoing cold weather testing in March.

The Aventador Superveloce coupe, which only made its debut at the 2015 Geneva motor show, features a retuned version of the company's 6.5-litre V12.

In the SV, the V12 churns out 552kW of power, or 37kW more than the regular Aventador.

Extra lashings of carbonfibre, such as in the door panels and bucket seats, as well as a stripped back interior that makes do without an infotainment system, carpet or noise insulation, help the Superveloce to tip the scales at 50kg less than the regular coupe.

Equipped with standard all-wheel drive and a seven-speed automated manual transmission, the Aventador SV can reel off the 0-100km/h standard in 2.8 seconds and hit a top speed of over 325km/h. It's not yet known if there will be any performance hit in the roadster version.

The order book for the Superveloce roadster is now open.
