Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, and he definitely has the need for speed in a game changing movie for the franchise that will please action fans and petrol heads alike.
When the IMF comes under threat from the Syndicate, a near-mythical organization of assassins and rogue operatives, Ethan Hunt assembles his team for their final and most difficult mission —to prove the Syndicate's existence and bring the organization down by any means necessary.
Thanks to the combination of both Criuse, and new director Christopher McQuarrie, the stakes have definitely been raised for this mission with the emphasis on compelling story central action, and practical effects. Cruise, is known for his enthusiasm for performing as many of his own stunts as possible, most of them defying the limits of the word ‘death-defying’, and in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation he certainly takes it to the edge.
Central to the film’s success are two very intense chase scenes in the legendary cinematic city of Casablanca which push Cruise to the limit behind the wheel. Literally jumping head first into a BMW 3 Series Cruise has to contend with a host of Syndicate bad guys on BMW S 1000 RR’s leading to an out of control chase through the historic alleys and back streets of Casablanca.
That sends Hunt, and his long suffering hacker and friend Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) on a rollercoaster of twists, turns, and very gnarly jumps!
But right when you thought it couldn’t get any more intense, Cruise clambers a aboard a BMW S 1000 RR for a motorcycle chase scene that is literally one of the coolest chases ever put to the screen. Shot with a focus dedicated to the idea of speed, you feel the rush and energy of the chase as McQaurrie pulls you into this full on chase scenes that is all twists, turns, and spectacular fireball wipe outs!
The appeal of the motorcycle chase also returns to Cruise’s first star making role as Maverick in 1986’s Top Gun where he redefined cool with the help of a bomber jacket, a pair of aviators, and a Kawasaki GPZ900R. Cruise’s abilities on his BMW S 1000 RR seems to be the natural evolution of this both his skills as a rider, his dedication as a performer, and his love for all things that burn rubber, and kick up cement.
But while Cruise tears things up on the ground in what must be his most death-defying stunt of all time the actor pins himself to side of a Airbus A400M Atlas, and is taken 5,000 feet into the sky! It’s a pure cinematic feat that must be seen to be believed.
The Mission Impossible franchise has long prided itself on taking it’s stunts to the extreme, and Rogue Nation makes good on this promise with Cruise pushing himself beyond what his audience has seen before to deliver the some of the coolest, and most daring chase scenes ever seen on film.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation is an absolute must watch for action fans.
